Selected Projects Completed
Geotechnical Engineering involves defining and understanding subsurface materials and their mechanical behaviour, and designing earthen structures. EGT's geotechnical designs take advantage of the positive factors of a site to safely combine man-made structures with a natural geology.
EGT has experience in geotechnical evaluation of variety of projects: municipal, commercial and industrial developments; transportation; resource industry; and utilities. Geotechnical issues which are typically addressed during an investigation would include recommended foundation types, design of lateral earth pressures on basement and retaining walls, subsurface drainage requirements, site grading, backfill and compaction requirements, recommendations for cement type and recommendations for sub-grade preparation and pavement design.
Site and Subsurface Investigations:
One of the basic elements of our practice the investigation of the nature and characteristics of the subsurface materials is a common thread for our projects. Nearly all of our projects rely on our skills in this area so that the appropriate design parameters and construction considerations can be assessed for the given site. It is therefore important for us to stay in the forefront of new developments and techniques in subsurface investigation and determination of soil characteristics. Additionally, we have one of the most extensive in-house databases of subsurface information, especially for the Medicine Hat with surrounding areas (Alberta). This database is an invaluable resource to our clients, especially in the initial stages of site investigation.
Slope Stability Analysis:
Construction observations of EGT projects provide project continuity from design to construction. EGT provides a wide range of Construction Materials Engineering and Testing services to help clients through various construction phases of the project. EGT personnel have a thorough understanding of the construction process combined with knowledge gained through years of experience and continuous training. Our ability to recognize problems early and to provide cost-effective solutions in a timely manner helps control costs and keep projects on schedule.
Laboratory Services:
Our laboratory facilities are CSA certified. They are equipped with a full compliment of apparatus and staffed by qualified technical personnel capable of performing a wide range of procedures related to geotechnical and material testing. Routine tests include: moisture content, Atterberg limits, sieve analysis, hydrometer analysis, coefficient of permeability, consolidation tests, California bearing-ratio test, soluble sulphate content, standard proctor test, marshal mix analysis, asphalt core analysis, concrete compressive strength test, linear traverse and set time concrete, mortar and paste tests and masonry unit tests for strength including construction inspection. Laboratory Material Testing includes:
